MAYNARD FERGUSON - TITANS SYMPHONY

MAYNARD FERGUSON
Bill Russo's Titans Symphony part 4

It's time for you all to get some culture and with the help of Maynard Ferguson,  Bill Russo and Leonard Bernstein you're going to get some. This is the 4th movement of Russo's Titans Symphony, and a showcase for Maynard. Ain't never gonna' be another Maynard Ferguson

This is the Titans symphony that Maynard Ferguson made famous with his high, high trumpet part. Maynard was in the same all-star Stan Kenton Innovations band that William Russo was in, they were pals. And Russo knew what Maynard could do. Leonard Bernstein was a little nervous!!! When they had the first rehearsal for Titans, Lennie said to Russo, "Are you sure Maynard can do this?" to which Russo said yes.
I met Maynard a few years after my father died with his new young musicians (Big Bop Nouveau) who adored him and were well aware of that performance at Carnegie Hall. They bragged about how Maynard played the matinee and evening concert flawlessly with Bernstein and then went over to Birdland and played something like five sets lasting till dawn. Titans is an apt title!!!
