The Federal Jazz Orchestra, abbreviated BuJazzO, is the official youth jazz orchestra of the Federal Republic of Germany. Its mission is to promote the up-and-coming generation of jazz. After completing the performance, each member will be admitted to the ensemble for a maximum of two years. Then new talents go into the orchestra, which in the jazz scene is considered a jumping board for a successful music career. The artistic direction has been with the team Jiggs Whigham and Niels Klein since 2011. With them and changing guests, the young talents between 17 and 24 years of age - almost all of whom are students at German and international music colleges - regularly develop new programs and present them in subsequent concerts at home and abroad. They are accompanied by an international lecturer and professional team, who support them musically and offer them a professional environment and optimal conditions. The orchestra has been the Patsorchester of the WDR Big Band since 2010. Since 2014 and 2016, a co-operation with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra (England) and the National Jeugd Jazz Orchest (Netherlands) has been organized through a regular "Student In Residence" program.
