STAN KENTON
Come Back to Sorrento.
Vido Musso and Stan Kenton worked together in various bands in the 1930s and briefly lead a band together in 1936. They became close friends which is about the only reason that anyone can possibly imagine that Kenton had Musso on his band as tenor soloists for so long. Musso’s sound just did not fit Kenton and for many it could only be termed as terrible. Nevertheless in 1946 Musso’s solo on theKenton recording of Come Back To Sorrento was a really big hit.
While it lies outside of the parameters of this page, being recorded in the 40s, it’s still worth listening to and offers quite a comic relief for all Kenton fans.
